Adorable Autumn

Most schools have been in session for about a month now, but fall won't officially replace the summer season until next week. For those of us in the Midwest, the weather is just beginning to cool down, so now is time to really think about your everyday fall wardrobe.

Whether you're walking around campus, out running errands or spending all day in meetings and lectures, you'll want to stay comfortable, yet stylish. My favorite trend that's still hot this fall is jeggings, the denim version of the classic legging. Some just look like an awkward denim screen print on regular cotton-spandex-blend fabric, but these jeggings from American Eagle are the perfect hybrid between skinny jeans and leggings. With enough room to still be jean-like comfortable, they are also fitted throughout the calf and ankle to slip comfortably into your favorite fall boots. Confession: I own this pair and adore them so much, I bought a pair for my sister. I cannot recommend them enough.

I also still love cascading open cardigans this fall. This one boasts stripes for a bold statement, while the gray color is neutral enough to pair with virtually any-color tank. Opt for a V-neck tank or tee underneath to show some skin, such as these racerbacks from Urban Outfitters. Right now, they have selected tanks and tees one sale for 2 for $24--a steal of a deal! Wear black for simple neutral combo or dark green for a pop for color.

To accessorize, add a skinny braided belt to cinch your waist and show off your curves. Suede is a classic fall fabric, so try it in a flat, like these pointed-toe, small-wedged ones from Steve Madden. Compliment the flowing sweater with a long necklace, such as these leaf charms from Forever 21. Rhinestone bracelets woven with fabric are so in right now and I just love this one in "grey knot" from Urban Outfitters.

Finally, fall is an extremely busy season for everyone, especially those of us college students. Add a fun tote to your collection that will not only carry your necessities, but also look good on your arm. This faux leather bag by Melie Bianco at Nordstrom in mint green is big enough for your books and notebooks and brings some vibrancy to the outfit.

Clockwise from top left: Hope Marian by Lizzie Fortunato jewels rhinestone bracelet, in grey knot, Urban Outfitters, $28; striped cascading cardigan, Forever 21, $17.80; BDG Super Skinny racerback tank, in black and dark green, Urban Outfitters, two for $24 (or $16 for one); basket weaved rope belt, in black, Forever 21, $6.80; Melie Bianco faux leather bag, in mint, Nordstrom, $41.90; suede pointed flats, in grey, Steve Madden, $39.99; jegging, in super dark destroyed, American Eagle, $49.50; leaf charm necklace, Forever 21, $6.80.

Fall is the best time for fashion; with the September issues of Vogue, Elle and W fresh in our minds, everyone is inspired and excited to show off their styles this season. Warm neutrals, such as black and brown, tend to dominate the staples of the season. Let me let you in on a little secret: Brown and black are NOT contrasting colors! Whoever told you that you can't wear brown and black together either a) lied to you or b) does not know what he or she is talking about. Brown and black are both neutrals, so don't be afraid to mix and match your shoes, belts, bags, jackets, etc. Just make sure the tones are complimentary. If you think you look good, chances are, you do.

Happy Autumn!

Navy This Time

Mid-summer marks the peak of wedding season and for those of you lucky enough to not be a bridesmaid, you have the freedom to wear what you want. The key to being comfortable and looking fierce is choosing an outfit appropriate for the daytime ceremony (which could possibly be held in a church) that can also transition to the reception that evening.

This white-on-navy floral printed Botan-avy dress from Modcloth.com has an elegant tiered skirt and and flattering empire waist. The adjustable spaghetti straps keep you covered up enough for the ceremony, while the exposed zipper in the back adds some sass for the reception. Add these Unlisted satin heels in champagne from Zappos.com and this pleated clutch with removable chain strap from The Limited, also in champagne, for a sophisticated look that will not only keep your conservative grandmother appeased, but also attract the attention from that hottie across the room.

Clockwise from left; pearlescent clustered earrings, Forever 21, $4.80; white-on-navy floral dress, Mod Cloth, $47.99; rhinestone encrusted shell ring, Forever 21, $5.80; satin strappy sandals, Unlisted, $49; pleated clutch, The Limited, $39.50.

One thing is for sure; you will definitely wear this dress again.

WARNING: open bar may cause impaired judgment and loss of advanced motor skills. If too much is consumed, at least make sure that kind sir you've been dancing closely with all night isn't a relative.

White Hot

It's tough to find a comfortable summer outfit that won't leave you burning up like the Jonas Brothers. Luckily, one of my favorite trends from last summer that is still looking chic and keeping you cool is white skinny jeans. They always make an outfit look crisp, even when worn casually. For a chill summer afternoon lunch or happy hour on the patio, pair white skinny jeans with small-wedged gladiator sandals and a ruffled tank (the ideal length would be just past your hips). Since I love the look of white and gold, I chose a men's-inspired watch for the perfect bold accessory. Add a gold chain necklace and you have a clean, put-together summer look. (Click on the collages to enlarge and the links to take you directly to the retail site).

Afternoon:

Clockwise from top left; Silence and Noise ruffled camisole, Urban Outfitters, $48; skinny jeans, American Eagle Outfitters, $39.95; initial necklace, Urban Outfitters, $18; Bucco gladiator thong sandals, Overstock.com, $26.99; wraparound watch, Urban Outfitters, $38.

Take the look from day to night by replacing the sandals with leather platform heels and a studded faux leather clutch in a complimentary color, shown here in pink. If you really want to stand out, pin back a section of hair just above one ear and secure with a peacock feather clip to add some extra color and flair.

For a Night Out:

Clockwise from top left; peacock feathers hairclip, Forever 21, $3.80; Vieta 'Pierre' faux leather clutch, Nordstrom, $45; Enigma platform heels, Overstock.com, $34.99.

And remember, NUDE boyshorts or thong is the best underwear to sport under your white hot pants. Spanx can also be a great option, especially if you are paranoid about cellulite.
